I graduated from DeVry University in October of 2006 with my Bachelors Of Science In Electronic Engineering Technologies. One of the reasons I put this this website is to showcase my abilities in a few different aspects of my life. More times than not, a persons abilities and interests will not be listed on their resume because it does not suit a position they are pursuing. For me I find it limiting because I am interested in many different aspects of: programming, engineering, and robotics - just to mention a few.
My fascination with electronics started when I was 3 and took apart my "Incredible Hulk" remote control truck so I could investigate how the single front wheel steering worked. Electromagnatism in case you were wondering. From then on I have taken apart practicly everything I could get my hands on (whether it was mine or not). The look on my mothers face and her shock at seeing me poking around in her console TV still is still etched in my head and makes me laugh.
One of my curent interests is in childrens toys for 3 reasons: 1) I have a 3 year old neice, 2) the inventors have to overcome so many different obsticles, more on this in a minute, 3) I am interested in developmental phsychology. When I'm refering to obsticles I'm referring to the ability to make something that will not be destroyed by jelly, or any other sticky substance a child may be in contact with. Toy engineers are geniouses at figuring out simple ways to deal with complex issues of how to make a toy that will avoid the dangers of living with a child.
You might have seen my Senior Project mentioned on the front page. The idea came to me (where most good ideas come from) in the bathroom when I was trying to think of a good project that would showcase a handful of my skills, as well as my teammates. The project I came up with was Bearbot. Bearbot is a childs animated companion that allows the parent to change the content (songs and stories) to match a childs ever changing interests. As a child grows they can go from Barney, to Little Tikes, to Dora The Explorer, to anything you can imaging. There currently is no single toy that will grow with them, until now. Bearbot functions as a companion to children because as the child grows Bearbot will grow with them. When the child learns a new song from Dora The Explorer, Bearbot will be right there singing it with them. The child can even take Bearbot to their friends house so that everyone can sing along to the new songs. Unlike yester year where everyone didn't know the new the songs and couldn't sing along, Bearbot will be right there to help them learn. Bearbot incorporates my knowledge of:
Mechanical Design - I made the frame out of aluminum, plexiglass, and PVC
Hardware Integration & Design - combining an MP3 player, audio filters and the 4 PIC chips mentioned above
Servo Motors - 5 to be exact
As stated in my About section, I am also a trained machinist and like to create with metals and plastics. This skill allows me to design as well as manufacture, modify, and design prototypes. So as a whole what an employer would be getting by hiring me would be: A very adaptable individual who has a good knowledge and hands on experience of electrical engineering, a broad knowledge of computers and the internet including, but not limited to: programming, scripting, databasing, and website development. A person who is not afraid to be in front of an audience and demonstrate products in front of a group of people, as well as someone who has a manufacturing and mechanical design background to: show, describe, and possibly design a companies products and how they work.
